Every spring, fans of The Walking Dead migrate to the Senoia & Peachtree City area for the fan convention known as The Camp. As a vegan from Los Angeles, I wasn’t too sure what to expect in terms of vegan fare without heading north to Atlanta. I wanted to try as many local spots as I could without interrupting the flow of my event weekend, so I did my best to scope out the vegan options in my immediate vicinity – here’s what I found.

Borgo Italia

18 Main Street

Borgo Italia is a family-owned Italian trattoria with a full page of plant-based offerings – one of the owners is vegan, and talked to me a bit about the menu. I ordered the Spaghetti di Bologna and Insalata della Casa (hold the mozz) – the food was delicious, and the vibes were impeccable. I’m definitely looking forward to making this an annual Camp tradition!

The restaurant also sits in one of the most iconic filming locations from The Walking Dead. Here you’ll find recognizable sets from Woodbury, Alexandria, and The Commonwealth. Across the street is Fake Stephanie’s apartment, the alley where drunk Eugene set his manuscript on fire, and a few doors down is The Governor’s apartment. At the end of the block and across the train tracks is the neighborhood used for The Alexandra Safe Zone.

There are many reasons I love spending time here, and now I can add Borgo Italia to the list!

Nic & Norman’s

20 Main Street
I made a mistake here and ordered Norman’s Pick minus the fried egg (Impossible patty, beets, avocado, spinach, and soy-ginger sauce) thinking it would be vegan, but the bun tasted suspiciously eggy. On my second visit, I verified with a hostess that the bun actually does contain egg. I see that they serve other proteins over a bed of greens, so it might be worth asking if they can offer a substitution rather than omitting the bun entirely. Otherwise, I think it’s still worth coming to Nic & Normans just for fries & vibes – it’s owned by Greg Nicotero and Norman Reedus, and is located within a primary filming location for The Walking Dead, so this is a must-visit spot for any fan.

Senoia Coffee

30 Main Street
I really like the coffee here, and my go-to order is a vanilla oat milk iced latte. At some point I think they had vegan cookies or pastries, but not when I’ve been in. I also enjoyed the avocado toast to-go while I was checking out filming locations, and they have a peanut butter banana toast as well.

Lisa’s Creperie & Cafe

48 Main Street #1B
I wasn’t super clear on what the vegan options were at Lisa’s, but apparently they have had awesome vegan crepes! Unfortunately, according to users on Happy Cow, it seems like they might no longer be offering them. It was definitely a priority to eat here on my next trip, so I’m leaving them on the list as wishful thinking, just in case they come back!

Matt’s Smalltown Pizza

53 Main Street
I haven’t made it to Matt’s yet, but I have heard good things! You can order pizza here with vegan cheese. And while much of the exterior of Main Street in Senoia was featured as part of The Walking Dead set, the interior of this restaurant briefly was as well. In Season 5, Episode 9 titled “What Happened and What’s Going On”, when Noah takes the crew back to his neighborhood, there’s a photo of his twin brothers in pre-apocalypse times eating pizza at Matt’s.

Publix

8080 Wells Street
My first Pub Sub! I stopped at Publix at the end of a long day, and my deli counter experience just made it longer. The sandwich maker was doing his best, but got hit with a late night customer rush – I wish I had clocked the time just for my own curiosity, because I feel like I’ve been in Disneyland queues that moved faster. They do have online ordering, so next time I would definitely do that to make things easier. The sandwich itself was tasty and filling, with generous portions of Unreal Deli turkey, Lightlife bacon, and Chao cheese. The only thing I wasn’t 100% a fan of was the vegan ranch – next time I would ask for it light or on the side.
