Downtown Disney reopened on July 9, and I spent about an hour there in the afternoon. This was my first outing since March that wasn’t a grocery or pet store run, so I planned to keep it short without too many expectations. It was nice to spend some time in one of my favorite places, and it served as a much needed break from the stress we’ve all been feeling these past few months.
Because I had planned to play it extra safe, I knew I probably wouldn’t be going inside World of Disney or any of the other indoor shops and restaurants on the first day. After walking a lap around the area, I got my lunch to-go from Asian Street Eats, which allows guests to place their order outside and collect it from a takeout window attached to the kitchen.

Everyone I saw was wearing their masks without any intervention from Cast Members, aside from people who were seated and eating in socially distanced spaces. Disney has also added hand washing stations and hand sanitizer pumps throughout the Downtown Disney area. For the most part, these extra safety measures along with my plan to stay outside made me feel pretty safe while I enjoyed some time at Downtown Disney. My only complaint was that even though they were operating at reduced capacity and the area didn’t feel too crowded overall, there were still some areas that created bottlenecks and caused some crowding. Based on what I’ve seen on social media, it seems like this has improved over time, and the first few days after reopening saw significantly more guests.
Although I had originally said I wouldn’t be going back to Downtown Disney, I do feel better now that the crowds have died down. I still don’t plan
on spending too much time there, but I will probably be making some quick trips to get takeout and do some food reviews. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or anything you would like to hear about or see in future posts.
Disney had also proposed a reopening date of July 17 for Disneyland Park — their 65th anniversary — but that date has been indefinitely postponed.
Check out the vlog below to see more about the security measures, and what my experience was like on opening day. I forgot to mention this in the video, but the Dole Whip in the thumbnail came from KUPS in Westminster — I grabbed it on my way home, because if you have a Disney day without a Dole Whip, does it really even count?
